MARGARET HOWELL SS11 MEN’S PRESENTATION

image

In the busy world of fashion schedules and presentations - Margaret Howell always manages to provide a welcome friendly retreat.  The spring-summer 2011 collection was shown on Sunday, (a very hot) last day of men’s ready-to-wear in Paris.  An ever-evolving collection for spring summer 2011 was displayed in their own store on the Place de la Madeleine alongside design classic homeware and furniture pieces. Key looks included Linen knits, fisherman’s jacket, spot print sea-island cotton, garment dyed separates, chambray washes, double-pleat trousers and ‘the shirt-jacket’.
Many of the journalists admitted to being avid fans of the brand - eagerly selecting their personal favourites ahead of collections arriving in-store next year! Margaret was also on hand to discuss her inspiration, design and life in general.

MODUS LOVES… ADAM KIMMEL AND GEORGE CONDO WINDOW DISPLAY AT COLETTE

image

I couldn’t resist stopping and taking a few pictures of this window display at Colette in Paris on Saturday - these eerie creations are the work of artist George Condo for menswear designer Adam Kimmel for his AW10 collection presentation in February, and now sending shivers down the spines of passersby on Rue Saint-Honoré...

LI XIAOFENG PORCELAIN POLO FOR LACOSTE

image

Oh I do love a work trip, especially in our industry.  No sooner had we touched down back in Blighty from a successful (and let’s say very…er…’sociable’) trip to Milan, than Modus was herded onto the early morning Eurostar to Paris for Lacoste!  They were celebrating the showcase of their AW10 Holiday Collectors collaboration at the Musée des Arts et Métiers with Beijing-based artist Li Xiaofeng, who creates bespoke pieces of clothing from broken and discarded shards of Chinese Porcelain. Consider it a form of fashion-meets sculpture-meets representing East-meets-West in aesthetic. He has been challenged by Lacoste  to create a classic polo in his signature artistic language, from which a print will be made of the resulting porcelain formation, and transferred onto a limited edition range of polo’s, available in the UK from November!

And of course, in true Lacoste  style, what better way to celebrate than with a party…

CALVIN KLEIN SS11 MENSWEAR ARTICLE OVER AT DAZED DIGITAL

image

David Hellqvist writes “Calvin Klein heritage is a strong one, and Italo Zucchelli has done a good job sustaining the almighty power that lies within the Calvin Klein name. Not only that, Zucchelli has pushed the boat out of late and his SS ’11 collection on early Saturday afternoon saw him create a look of his own. Naturally, it was always going to be clean, simple and minimal lines, but there was a distinct step towards loud colours, such as mint green, a delightful blue and a deep purple shade.”

CANALI SS11 MENSWEAR COLLECTION MILAN

image

A theatrical vignette awaited editors at Canali yesterday, an homage to Fellini.  Models descended onto the catwalk to the soundtrack of La Dolce Vita and Nino Rota, 1960s Milano the inspiration behind the collection models stood in silhouette in the arched windows of Rome’s Via Veneto.
Finely tailored suits with a natural Canali elegance, contemporary style that is enriched by antique traditions and modern tailoring.

Natural fabrics and slim lines ran through the collection in the form of soft jackets with natural shoulders in classic summer hues beige, taupe, underbrush green with bright mustard highlights.  Grey and blue are alternated with black to create softer but impeccably cut and finely constructed suits.  All topped off with a suitably chic Borsalino panama and Persol sunglasses.

We can’t wait until they’re available in the new flagship Canali store in London!

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND SS11 MENSWEAR COLLECTION MILAN

image

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND SS11 MENSWEAR COLLECTION MILAN - JUNE 21

The SS11 menswear collection returns with a unique showcase at galleria CARLA sozzani and marks another important step in reaffirming Pringle of Scotland’s’ position as a global luxury brand. The main concept of the collection takes the simple theme of creating a comp lete look made from only one fabrication to form a strong statement – an interpretation across product categories.

Clare Waight Keller comments “This season was really about looking into the classic fabrications of a man’s wardrobe and giving them a new context. The idea of total look but in an informal way was something that I explored in depth, and has resulted in fabrics being used across every element. A shirt is worn under a sweater made of the shirting worn under a trench made of a waxed shirting, the translation of the fabric making the familiar completely fresh and surprising.”

The colour palette, inspired by both Derek Jarman’s film ‘Blue’ and the classic men’s ‘denim’ is the prominent colour story. Complimentary neutral palette of stones, melange greys and whites complete the story.

Throughout, denim is reinterpreted and referenced in its various forms and guises. Waxing on outerwear is another key story - Traditional fabrications, not usually associated with outerwear, are taken and waxed to create super light rainproof outerwear pieces.

New knitted techniques are incorporated into the collection with an intarsia argyle in melange silk and represented in tonal faded blues. The ladder mesh seen in the womenswear AW 10 collection is developed albeit with a masculine interpretation. The iconic twinset is reinforced and is echoed with the concept of underpinning matched with a knitted over piece in the same fabric.

ETRO MILAN MENSWEAR SS11 SHOW

image

ETRO MILAN MENSWEAR SS11 SHOW

Kean Etro’s tree of life is the date palm that gave the inspiration for paisley designs, the very DNA on which the Etro brand is built.

Spring Summer 11 is no exception, strong in terms of design, colour and structure the actual pieces are extremely lightweight.  Kean’s wardrobe is composed of ‘leaves, clouds and light’. Almost weightless jackets, georgette shirts with delicate paisley print in the palest pastels.

Ultra light organic cotton polos, elegant shantung silk jackets with tone on tone bark print.  Accessories include oversized totes in the softest hides, contrast sneakers and cut off ties.  If a paisley ensemble is too much to start with there is a luxurious aray of printed, jacquard and embroidered scvarves and handkerchiefs in a flux of paisley, flowers and fruits to plant the seed….........

This summer menswear collection will be available from Etro, 14 Old Bond Street, Mayfair, London W1S 4PS; 020 7495 5767

ETRO MILAN MENSWEAR SS11 BACKSTAGE

image

ETRO MILAN MENSWEAR SS11 BACKSTAGE

The tree of life from Ancient Mesopotamia forms the starting point for
this seasons Etro Menswear collection. The story goes that the date
palm seed was the original inspiration for the Paisley design. The
tress is represented in Western culture by the beech, oak and ash
trees. No prizes for guessing the Goody bag at the show .......
