SAVANNAH MILLER AND ARTIST ROSE WYLIE IN CONVERSATION

image

Last night we found ourselves truly inspired at Westbourne Grove Church at ‘Savannah Miller and artist Rose Wylie in Conversation’ – an event hosted by the Friends of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, UK.

The evening marked the most recent Twenty8Twelve guest artist collaboration where Rose has designed two original t-shirt prints for Autumn/Winter 2010.  Every season Sienna and Savannah search for and support an emerging artist whose work they admire; their work is then included on the swing tags of all Twenty8Twelve garments sold globally.

76 year old Rose Wylie is a talented artist who has recently been included in the ‘Women to Watch’ exhibition by the National Museum of Women in the Arts at Washington DC.

Throughout the discussion, Savannah and Rose described how their partnership came to be, citing key moments that resulted in the final designs.

The evening continued at the flagship Twenty8Twelve store on Westbourne Grove where Rose has also designed a window installation for the season. Her compelling artwork is on display and available to buy until the New Year.

PRINGLE DAY OF RECORD

image

On Thursday residents from the Scottish borders descended in their droves to Hawick, armed with all manner of memorabilia relating to the history of their oldest and most revered brand, as Pringle of Scotland held their first ‘Day of Record’.

In an attempt to piece together for the first time an extensive and comprehensive archive, Pringle has asked for people to come forward and contribute product, designs, imagery, documentation and anecdotes. Their old mill in Hawick played host to a day of memories & story telling as the local community tucked in to plates of French Fancies and Viennese Whirls aplenty. They offered up their vintage wares to be catalogued in a unique event where the people that helped to support and build the Pringle brand over the years finally got to have their place in its history recognized.

All that was missing was Michael Aspel walking pensively outside.

BROWN PAPER PACKAGES TIED UP WITH STRING…

image

Tucked away in the heart of Cavendish Square, The Conservatory played host to our Christmas in July 2010 press day. With the simplicity of a little brown paper, white string and that extra touch of creativity, we were able to bring that sweet fondness of our Christmas memories to life. As we revealed to our guests what was in store for them this year, we were met with gasps of excitement, intrigue and absolute delight. From socks to snoods, ski jackets to suits and shoes to sunglasses, there was something for everyone. With the sun shining down and illuminating what Santa is stuffing those Christmas stockings with, we can’t help but wonder - what will I get for Christmas?

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND ARCHIVE PROJECT

image

Pringle of Scotland are going to be forming their archive for the first time in their history and are appealing to the nation, particularly the Scottish, to contribute anything relating to the history of Pringle. Whether this be a vintage piece of clothing, old photographs of people wearing Pringle, or even anecdotes from people who have worked for or with the brand over the years.

With 195 years of history, they are one of the oldest fashion / apparel brands in the country, and particularly noted in history for introducing the Argyle print and the Twin Set.
The brand in recent years has gone through a re-positioning campaign to become a luxury designer fashion house focused on its heritage, this is a truly unique democratic-style project where anyone is free to contribute anything related to Pringle’s history.

A ‘Day of Record’ will take place on 12th August in Pringle of Scotland’s factory in Hawick, where an Antiques Road Show-style day will invite local people to come and bring in their treasures and their memories.

LI XIAOFENG PORCELAIN POLO FOR LACOSTE

image

Oh I do love a work trip, especially in our industry.  No sooner had we touched down back in Blighty from a successful (and let’s say very…er…’sociable’) trip to Milan, than Modus was herded onto the early morning Eurostar to Paris for Lacoste!  They were celebrating the showcase of their AW10 Holiday Collectors collaboration at the Musée des Arts et Métiers with Beijing-based artist Li Xiaofeng, who creates bespoke pieces of clothing from broken and discarded shards of Chinese Porcelain. Consider it a form of fashion-meets sculpture-meets representing East-meets-West in aesthetic. He has been challenged by Lacoste  to create a classic polo in his signature artistic language, from which a print will be made of the resulting porcelain formation, and transferred onto a limited edition range of polo’s, available in the UK from November!

And of course, in true Lacoste  style, what better way to celebrate than with a party…
