LONDON FASHION WEEK: PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND AW10: SHOW

Creative Director Clare Waight Keller on her AW Collection: “There are a lot of Scottish influences of course, but it was also about pairing it down and playing with proportions. Small tops and bigger bottoms! I also wanted to mix up textures, so we used tweed and tartans, but mixed it up with leathers and shearling.
The skirt pleats for example, were a way of breaking up and deconstructing the kilt into many layers to give it more movement and abstract quality. I have many favourites in the collection of course, but I especially like the sweater dresses with the velvet back and the big pants!

LONDON FASHION WEEK: MATTHEW WILLIAMSON AW10: SHOW

London Fashion Week: Matthew Williamson: Show
A cold Sunday afternoon was cheered up significantly by a stunning collection from Matthew Williamson who took inspiration from the culture of Spanish matadors featuring fan details on cobalt, purple, and salt-and-pepper tweed suits; fiesta prints; toreador trousers; and dazzling shifts and gowns in gold and silver, based on bullfighters’ jackets. Heavily embellished pieces were sprinkled with Swarovski crystals. Matthew was cheered from the front row by many celeb friends, Trish Goff, Yasmin le Bon and her daughter Amber, Jodie Harsh and Ben Grimes who joined best mate and muse Sienna Miller who took time out from prep for her own Twenty8Twelve presentation.

Inspiration:
Our girl has ventured out of town to a house party in the country. Surprisingly for a city dweller she’s committed to staying over.
After a restless nights sleep she decides to venture back to Town. Not wanting to disturb her hosts she silently collects her belongings – she throws (her now crumpled) party dress over a slip and exchanges her velvet pumps for slim lace up ankle boots. She creeps down to the kitchen and washes her face in soap and cold water – the soap leaves her skin taught and tingling clean but fails to remove all traces of the evening’s eye makeup. Her hair unbrushed she hunts around for something more adequate to wear – spotting some gardening clothes on the back of a door she pulls on a hand knit jumper and ties another around her neck. She steps outside into the cold morning light. The cold, bracing air flushes her cheeks.
Relieved to be alone she walks across the field – the damp air clings to her hair forming a frizzy halo. Her stride is confident and rhythmic – she’s enjoying the rare feeling of being alone and with no one to listen starts to sing…..
She perhaps feels a bit self conscious as she sees the station approaching and rummages around in her leather bag (slung across her) to find her i-pod- she might even tidy up a bit – pulling back her hair loosely into a band….

Tomorrow the great is a visual collision of nature and industry; an all-consuming collective celebrating the drama of contrast and contradiction.
a modern take on Edwardian style evokes a sense of faded grandeur with high-necks and structured styles embellished in an eccentric mix of shell, bone, metal and perspex.
strong shapes and clean silhouettes make way for a graphic clashing of stripes, zig-zags and ethnic print-work, completing the cross-cultural aesthetic.
presenting, tomorrow the great.
