The release of The September Issue on DVD has no doubt caused a large number of fashion lovers to discard their Georgina Goodman’s for a night in front of the TV.
Focusing on editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the film does little to pierce her formidable exterior. It includes too many elongated shots of Anna looking disinterested, or sitting in silence for my liking, but is edited to include some sharp slices of wit.

At first I felt the film was not the insightful triumph I had hoped for. But on reflection, I realise I am probably more addicted to celebrity culture than I thought! The September Issue’s presentation and preservation of Anna as a professional and seemingly flawless icon lacks the “baring-all” of reality television to which viewers are accustomed. This documentary maintains Anna’s image as enigmatic, which I think is for the best - even if I would’ve enjoyed seeing how she picks out her outfit in the morning!

Salvatore Ferragamo SS10 Women’s Runway Show
It was the finale show for Cristina Ortiz at Salvatore Ferragamo show in Milan… and she didn’t disappoint.
Notable guests such as actress Rachel Bilson and socialite Poppy Delevigne sat on the front row watching the models in their structured high strappy sandals. Wedges were high and in metallic colours and bags were in python and crocodile.
Flashes of fuchsia pink and yellow added a warmth to the collection. Jodphurs featured heavily and tailoring featured in coats and jackets. A magnificent finish to Ortiz’s tenure.

Etro SS10 Women’s Runway Show
Etro’s Spring Summer 2010 show was eagerly anticipated by a packed UK block that spilled over to the stairs and standing, apologies to those who didn’t get cushions!! Veronica did not disappoint she sent a very feminine, fluid collection down the runway which had editors furiously sketching the silk paisley dresses and jumpsuits.
Inspired by blossoming flowers seen through coloured glass the result is an impression of natural camouflage on relaxed easy and very wearable pieces that can be worn by a real woman. At the root of the collection is the concept of versatile clothing that can be transformed in a multitude of ways according to a woman’s whims and needs. Etro’s heritage shines through this exquisite collection, delicate prints and lashings of hand embellishment adorn, dresses and jackets which I have a feeling will be the most sort after samples!

The World According to Tavi…
Tavi Gevinson. You know. The utterly adorable self confessed ‘dork’ that could fit in your pocket she’s so teeny. The next generation of style icons with enviable fashion knowledge. The modern day fashionista or should I say, fashionkneehighsta.
Imagine the list of goals she wrote when she was twelve.
1. Create a successful blog called Style Rookie. Tick.
2. Dedicate and film a rap to my idol, Ms Commes Des Garcons herself, Rai Kawakubo. Post it on YouTube. Leave black rose petals on her doorstep when I have a spare mo’. Tick.
3. Grace the cover of Pop. Tick and Tick!
4. Front row access to NY Fashion Week. Befriend Alexander Wang. Gwen Stefani will want her photo taken with me. Wait in line. Grace Coddington is next. Tick.
If we keep producing kids like Tavi the world will be a better place…

Pringle of Scotland SS10 Runway Show
Pringle’s SS10 show took place in the powerful expanse of The Saatchi gallery on Monday evening, attracting an interesting crowd of fashion elite. Notable of course was Anna Wintour, who sat silently like a mythical muse, head down, her iconic angular bob silhouetted against the pristine white catwalk and a semi halo of photographers around her.
Once the last cries emanating from the bickering pyramid of photographers died down the show began and those elegant long legged creatures beautifully strutted a palette of silvery blues and greys, nudes and taupes, burnt orange and sunny yellows down the runway.
Creative director Clare Waight Keller remained faithful to the brand’s classic minimalist shapes, with ruffled asymmetrical skirts and tunics, light weight blazers and plain white nautical shorts. Of course Pringle’s original timeless pieces such as long knits and cape shaped macs also appeared in soft subdued tones, needed just as much it seems for a wet British summer as a windy British winter.

Twenty8Twelve SS10 Runway Show
There was much anticipation of the Twenty8twelve show - what would the Miller sisters deliver this season? Answer: A cool and edgy collection. Their effortlessly tailored style still taking precedence, however this time it was mixed in with glamour and grunge.
Flesh flashing dresses, stone wash and white denims, tough studded denim waistcoats, sassy flats and killer stilettos…breathe ladies, breathe! The colours popped, the bandanas rocked, Alice Dellal looked hot, hot, hot and you get the feeling that playsuits and jumpsuits are not going anywhere just yet…neither are tight fitting crop tops…I know, I hear it too, the gasp of women everywhere!
Its not so bad ladies as we have an entire autumn winter season to hit the power plates and when your boss does offer you another Laduree macaroon, best to decline. Note to self: I wonder if this is a good enough reason to try and take out a small loan with the bank…I want it all!

St Tropez at London Fashion Week
We are Backstage at London Fashion Week with St Tropez who are headline skin finishing sponsors for some key show this season - kicking off with Louise Goldin where all the models were lightly sprayed with the new St Tropez Wash Off range – the ultimate in low commitment tanning! Models were coming in pasty white and ended on the runway looking positively healthy the perfect accessory for Spring Summer collections.
Next show was Marios Schwab – and the debut of a NEW skin finishing product – hot off the press it will be launching 2010 and one that even the models wanted to keep!
Jaeger SS10 Runway Show
With a bold Mondrian-inspired A/W 09 collection under his belt, not to mention the scrutinous eye of Anna Wintour in the front row, Stuart Stockdale’s S/S 10 collection for Jaeger London had no choice but to exceed high expectation.
There are many pieces which enable the Jaeger London woman to embrace the freedom and movement of the S/S 10 collection – flowing harem pants which create beautiful silhouettes, billowing high-waisted shorts, embellished blouses and geometric windowpane prints made to look like waves.
If the remarkable colour palette didn’t steal the show, accessories were a strong contender. Sky-high wedges rocketed down the ivory shag-pile carpet, as architectural stacked heels mirrored the appearance of miniature futuristic buildings. The statement gold-disc necklaces courtesy of Jaeger’s collaboration with jeweller Scott Wilson were enough to make even the A-list drool.

David Koma SS10 Runway Show
Hosted off schedule in one of England’s finest Art Deco buildings, the Grade II listed Freemasons Hall, David Koma’s debut show opened with Hot Chip’s funky electro pop ‘Ready For The Floor’ – a fine choice to begin his first collection as winner of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award.
The collection inspired by the sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle in The Tarot Garden in Barcelona combines 60’s influenced body conscious silhouettes in a colour palette of vivid pinks, blues, green and oranges featuring embellishments of multi coloured handmade glass fusing and exaggerated curved arm and neck glass jewellery.
Comments included a ‘Jetsons meets Barbarella’ evoked style that wowed the audience with the futuristic designs and excited the Modus team who are now working with the designer full time from this SS10 collection.
