A LA MODUS SPRINGS BACK!

OK, so I took a little tiny break from A La Modus. But I challenge YOU to try and drag a busy Modus fashionista into the arctic London winter and still come back with all your limbs intact. It seems as though spring has finally sprung and revived my lovely subjects’ devotion to their spring wardrobe just in the nick of time. Now if only I could figure out how to get them to come back inside…

VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE” TO HAVE WORLD PREMIERE AT 2010 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL, NEW YORK

“For the past three years, I’ve been working on a documentary of my life, so I’ve been re-visiting experiences and places I haven’t been in decades, looking back on my 82 years, and now with the acceptance of the film into the Tribeca Film Festival, I really can say, that the excitement has never stopped.” Vidal Sassoon
VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE, Michael Gordon and Craig Teper’s revealing, inspirational portrait of how one extraordinary man changed the world with a pair of scissors, will have its World Premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.
A fast-paced feature documentary spanning 80 years of revolution in history and culture, VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE is a true rags to riches tale, tracing Sassoon’s path from a London orphanage to international success and celebrity. Following Michael Gordon, founder of hair care company Bumble and bumble as he sets out to document Vidal’s life in a richly visual book the movie tells the story of how Sassoon revolutionized the world of hair – his pioneering, geometric, Bauhaus-inspired styles and “wash and wear” philosophy quite literally changing the way women looked. The fashion, style and social revolutions of the 1960’s come alive as the design of the book and the film unfold.
The Tribeca Film Festival World Premiere screening will take place on the evening of Friday, April 23, at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Manhattan. Sassoon will attend the festival and participate in a question-and-answer session following the premiere screening, along with Teper and Gordon.
VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE is directed by Craig Teper, produced by Michael Gordon and Jackie Bauer, and executive produced by Jim Czarnecki. For further information, visit http://www.vidalsassoonthemovie.com or http://www.facebook.com/VidalSassoonTheMovie

MODUS LOVES… RAPUNZEL ON BEAK STREET!

We experienced a collective intake of breath whilst venturing from nearby Modus HQ this week - a fairy tale made real on a narrow Soho Street. The Riflemaker gallery on Beak Street wears it’s art on the outside, playing host to Alice Anderson’s Rapunzel installation.
Consisting of 3000 meters of synthetic dolls hair flowing throughout the interior and exterior of the building, a peek through the window reveals a web of hair entwining the gallery space. Amazing and disquietening in equal measure…

[JAMES SEATON, TOAST.]
Flying in over the Yucatán, over miles upon miles upon hundreds of miles of flat, nondescript, grey-green scrub – until Mérida comes into sight, a large, white city… in the middle of nowhere. Why, one asks oneself, is this here?
Disembarking the plane, the heat hits one like an oven door opening – over 40ºc and breath-catchingly humid. The bush is packed tight, dusty, low, thorny. Come dusk or shade or damp, the whine of mosquitoes. Despite the….
